Polyethylene Foam for Product Packaging

In order to protect your products during transport, whatever their degree of fragility is, you must have the reflex to use foam packaging. Foam is the cellular form of plastic with undeniable qualities of strength, density, robustness and damping properties. It comes in two forms: cross-linked and uncross-linked polyethylene foams. Both can be used for product packaging.

All about Polyethylene Foam

Polyethylene is the common plastic used in the manufacture of plastic bags in supermarket, milk bottles and even in the composition of many toys. The polyethylene foam comes in the standard form of a plank with dimensions of 2000 x 1200 mm for a thickness of 10 to 100 mm and a density ranging from 18 kg/m³ to 150 kg/m³. Different colors are available such as white, black or pink. They compress easily thanks to the air contained in their cells. Respectful of the environment, it is important to note that soft touch polyethylene foam is 100% recyclable.

Whatever the shape of the product you want to pack is, its type or its weight, the polyethylene foam will bend in all points to the measurements of your item. It is a multi-purpose material for packing and protecting fragile objects, and also ideal for cushioning and damping against shocks, drops and vibrations that your products could sustain during transport. Totally waterproof, it will withstand exposure to derivative products such as hydrocarbons, greases, solvents or seawater. Polyethylene foam is transformed through various processes such as water jet, press, sawing or adhesive system.

Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam

In order to obtain cross-linked or reticulated polyethylene foam, a specific product is injected into the base polyethylene under high pressure. This technic is intended to refine the foam and to make it more aesthetic. This transformation will give the foam flawless sealing properties, high stiffness and flexibility, combined with long durability. In addition, the cross-linked polyethylene thus obtained will be non-abrasive and non-corrosive. A wide range of colors is a nice addition to the presentation of your boxes by subtly putting your items in value.

Non Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam

Non cross-linked or non-reticulated polyethylene foam is particularly recommended for cushioning. It has very high compressive strength that makes it very effective in the absorption of shocks and vibrations. Economical, it is also 100% recyclable. You have the choice between different colors like white, black and pink in its antistatic version. It also come in several densities.

It all depends on the type of products your industry manufactures. In general, cross-linked polyethylene foam is more suitable for fragile objects. The most important thing is that your packaging solution matches your values in terms of aesthetics, security and ecology. You just need to choose the right brand to manufacture your synthetic foam packaging solution.…
